British Columbia is one of the leading Canadian provinces in terms of population and economic growth. Originally a British colony, it joined Canada in 1871, and in 1885, the Canadian Pacific Railway was established, paving the way to improved quality of life and abundant economic opportunities as it accelerated the transport of people and goods. Commemorate the entry of British Columbia into the Confederation with this British Columbia Centennial Specimen 1971 Silver Dollar Coin. Composed of 50% silver and 50% copper, its reverse design is based on British Columbia's provincial arms with an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Coin may be toned due to age.

The Royal Canadian Mint originally started producing specimen sets in 1970 for the general public to purchase. Since then, they have been a favourite among collectors looking to capture the coins that were in circulation during the year. This Canada Specimen Double Penny Set was released in 1979, and includes the following currencies: two 1-cent coins, 5-cent, 10-cent, 25-cent, 50-cent, and 1 dollar coins. The coins in the set come in a maroon vinyl-covered case that is complemented by the country's Coat of Arms with the word "CANADA" that is stamped in gold.
