    2014 Canada $20 Bobcat ($20 for $20 #12) Fine Silver (TAX Exempt)

The bobcat (Lynx rufus) is an elusive nocturnal hunter that can leap up to 3 metres. It preys primarily on rabbits, hares, and mice-though it can successfully take down much larger prey. This adaptable and wide-ranging predator is one of North America's most common wildcats and is found from southern Canada to northern Mexico.

The reverse design of this fine silver coin features an original full-body portrait of a bobcat by Canadian artist Ken Ryan. The relatively abundant yet rarely-seen feline is portrayed mid-leap as it pounces upon its unsuspecting prey. Viewed from the front, face and outstretched forepaws pointed directly at the viewer, the bobcat is presented in stunning detail. Its characteristic black-tufted ears point backward as its black-lined eyes, small black nose and sharp-toothed mouth snarl in focused intensity. Its large front paws and fur-lined forelegs are outstretched before it, while its long and powerful back legs drive the animal forward. The stubbed, black-ringed tail from which the bobcat draws its name is visible above the animal's striped and spotted back. Each hair and whisker is carefully detailed and shaded using multiple finishes, highlighting the world-class artistry of Royal Canadian Mint engravers.
