Harold Demont Olsen was a Canadian painter who was born on November 10, 1903, in Woodstock, Ontario, and passed away on May 6, 1986, in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is known for his landscape paintings, which often depicted the rugged scenery of British Columbia and the Rocky Mountains.

Olsen studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto under Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, and Frederick Varley, all of whom were members of the Group of Seven, a famous group of Canadian landscape painters. After completing his studies, Olsen traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States, painting landscapes and exhibiting his work.

In 1939, Olsen moved to Vancouver and became a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. He also taught art at the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art and Design) and became an important figure in the city's art community. Throughout his career, Olsen exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including shows at the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.

Olsen's paintings are characterized by their vibrant colors, bold brushstrokes, and a strong sense of movement and energy. His works often capture the raw power and majesty of nature, and he had a special talent for depicting the rugged beauty of the Canadian landscape. Olsen's legacy continues to be celebrated today, and his work can be found in many public and private collections throughout Canada and the United States.
