Illingworth Kerr was a Canadian painter, printmaker, and educator born in England in 1905. He is known for his bold, expressionistic style and his depictions of the Canadian landscape and rural life.
Kerr studied at the Royal College of Art in London and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. In 1929, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Calgary, Alberta, where he began teaching at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (now the Alberta College of Art and Design).
Kerr's paintings are characterized by their energetic brushstrokes and vivid use of color, often featuring scenes of the Canadian prairies, mountains, and rural communities. He was also an accomplished printmaker, producing a wide range of works using techniques such as woodcutting, linocut, and lithography.
Throughout his career, Kerr exhibited his work in many solo and group exhibitions across Canada and the United States, and his paintings and prints are held in numerous public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Vancouver Art Gallery.
In addition to his artistic work, Kerr was a dedicated educator, serving as the head of the Alberta College of Art and Design's painting and drawing department from 1945 until his retirement in 1970. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and received many honors and awards for his contributions to Canadian art, including the Order of Canada.
Today, Kerr is recognized as one of Canada's most accomplished and influential artists, and his work continues to inspire and influence new generations of artists.

We ship through Canada Post, which means we only ship within the parameters of their dimensions & weight. Anything won in our auctions above and beyond that will be forfeited.
