Louise Piquette is a Canadian painter and printmaker who was born in 1955 in Edmonton, Alberta. She is known for her vibrant, colorful paintings and prints that often feature scenes of the Canadian landscape and rural life.
Piquette studied at the University of Alberta, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in printmaking, and later received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Concordia University in Montreal. She has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions across Canada and the United States, and her prints and paintings are held in many public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Piquette's paintings are characterized by their bold use of color, expressive brushstrokes, and a sense of movement and energy. She often uses a palette knife to create thick, textured layers of paint, and her work is known for its sense of immediacy and vitality. In her prints, Piquette employs a variety of techniques, including etching, lithography, and screenprinting, to create images that are both bold and intricate.
Piquette has received many honors and awards for her art, including grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. She has also been a visiting artist and lecturer at many universities and art schools in Canada and the United States. Today, she is recognized as one of Canada's most accomplished and innovative printmakers and painters.
