Auction Details
Beck Auctions presents Rock-a-bye Baby – In House, an extraordinary collection where childhood nostalgia meets serious collecting.
At first glance, this auction is a remarkable journey through generations of dolls and toys — but look a little closer and you’ll discover silver, historic Canadian currency, jewellery, pop-culture memorabilia and unexpected treasures tucked throughout the catalogue.
Doll collectors will find an impressive selection spanning much of the 20th century, including early composition, bisque, cloth and hard-plastic dolls, boxed Shirley Temple dolls, Chatty Cathy, Crissy and Velvet, Effanbee, Horsman, Berjusa, Gerber, Barbie, Ginny, Kapture Kiddle, Strawberry Shortcake, Spice Girls, Marilyn Monroe, I Love Lucy, New Kids on the Block and many more. Particularly interesting pieces include a 1928 Kanak Toy composition doll, a scarce 1948 Canadian-made doll, large groupings of 1930s–1940s composition dolls, and extensive Shirley Temple collections.
The nostalgia continues with early wicker baby carriages and prams, vintage doll furniture, cradles, toy tea sets, dollhouses, clothing, shoes and accessories, alongside classic Fisher-Price toys, Matchbox cars, View-Master reels, Mickey Mouse and Disney collectibles, Sailor Moon, The Simpsons, Gumby, Pee-wee Herman, Where’s Waldo and other recognizable favourites.
But some of the most surprising finds come later in the catalogue.
Collectors of Canadian currency will want to pay particular attention to a framed collection of Canadian banknotes and coins, featuring denominations including $1, $2, $5, $20 and $100 notes, followed by five individual Canadian $100 banknotes, including several 1975 Bank of Canada Sir Robert Borden issues and an example catalogued in uncirculated condition.
Precious-metal collectors will find a sealed 1 troy oz National .999+ fine silver bar, issued for Mother’s Day in 1982, along with a 1985 Disney “Mickey – 60 Years With You” silver commemorative coin set complete with its original box and documentation.
Jewellery lovers should not overlook the extensive assortment of vintage costume jewellery spread across several lots, including rhinestone brooches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, cameos and display trays. One standout offering contains 34 vintage and costume rings, including an example catalogued as 10K gold, alongside assorted gemstone and mixed-metal rings.
There is also an exceptional variety of historic and celebrity memorabilia. Highlights include a substantial Dionne Quintuplets collection containing scrapbooks, photographs, magazines, postcards and souvenirs; a John F. Kennedy memorabilia collection with books, busts, magazines and a Rosenthal Germany commemorative plate; and an Elvis Presley collection featuring magazines, comics, commemorative pieces, a Limoges portrait plate and a 1968 Comeback-themed action figure.
Collectors of ceramics and decorative pieces will find Wade Whimsies, a Beswick figure, Goebel porcelain, lady head vases, Satsuma dragonware, vintage children’s tea sets, silverplate flatware, art glass, milk glass and other decorative treasures.
From nearly century-old dolls and baby carriages to $100 Canadian banknotes, fine silver, jewellery, Disney silver, celebrity memorabilia and vintage toys, Rock-a-bye Babie is far more than a doll auction. It is the kind of collection where every page reveals something completely different — and some of the best finds are hiding where you least expect them.
