Jim Daly is an American painter and illustrator best known for his nostalgic and sentimental depictions of childhood.

He was born in 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. As a child, he was fascinated by the illustrations in books and magazines, and his interest in art led him to pursue a career in illustration.

Daly studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and began his career as a freelance illustrator. His work appeared in magazines such as Reader's Digest, Better Homes and Gardens, and National Geographic. In the 1980s, Daly began to shift his focus towards painting and fine art.

Daly's paintings often feature children engaged in simple activities such as fishing, playing, and exploring the outdoors. His style is marked by a soft, luminous quality that creates a sense of nostalgia and warmth. Daly's compositions are carefully constructed, and his attention to detail is evident in the intricate textures and patterns that he incorporates into his paintings.
