Tinyan Chan’s unique painting style combines a compelling blend of Western and Asian aesthetics. His energetic, impressionistic style, and fearless use of brilliant colour, reflect the diverse cultural influences in his life. He is renowned in his native land for his masterful depictions of water scenes, woodland scenes and florals, and was honoured in 2012 with the “Life Retrospective, A 100 Piece Exhibition” in Guangzhou province, China, as well as receiving a civic award.

Born in 1942 and at the young age of 16, Tinyan was selected from among several thousand candidates, and admitted to the China Academy of Fine Arts. He then studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and in 1965 left his Hong Kong studio for west Africa, and employment as chief designer for the United Nigeria Textile Company. Here he was permanently influenced by tranquil village life, exotic color and design. Tinyan traveled throughout Europe and studied at the prestigious École Nationale Superieure de Beaux-Arts in Paris. Finally, he settled in Canada in 1968, and became one of that country’s most celebrated artists ….
