When Rusty Reed started learning the foundation of the blues, and blues harmonica some four
decades ago, the young Edmontonian learned from the best and absorbed everything he was
taught by mentors like George “Harmonica” Smith, David Burgin and William Clarke.
Within a few years of forming his own band, The Southside Shuffle, Reed was touring
relentlessly, playing sessions, and recording. Part of that early journey included his acceptance
of an offer to join the Edmonton Folk Music House Band in 1986.
Reed has played on over 30 albums of note, two of his favorite sessions being Long John
Baldry’s I’ve Got A Reason to Sing The Blues and Jo-El Sonnier’s Live In Canada that was
recorded right here at Gallagher Park on main stage.
His experience at the EFMF has found him backing an all-star cast of legends and a short list
includes, Geoff Muldaur, Solomon Burke, Jimmy Witherspoon, Maria Muldaur, and Joe Lewis
    Walker.
